The 2018 Silver Blaze

Inspired by the Sherlock Holmes story “Silver Blaze” and its namesake racehorse, the Baker Street Irregulars present their triennial horserace and gathering. Pre-purchased tickets through the BSI are required. This event is open to all Sherlockians and their friends.
The event commences on Saturday, August 11, promptly at Noon, lasting until approximately 3:30 PM, at the historic and beautiful Saratoga Race Course in picturesque Saratoga Springs, New York. We will have premium “At the Rail” reserved tickets within the private area immediately adjacent to the race track, between the start/finish line and the first turn, for prime viewing for the races. Tickets include the “At the Rail” full gourmet buffet luncheon for your enjoyment.
Also included are our own betting stations, cash bar service by the wait staff, and large-screen overhead televisions displaying the line-up for each race, betting odds, and the races themselves. For those wishing to see the races up close, you may walk the few steps from where we will be seated to the rail along the race track to watch the action as the horses pass by, both for the pre-race parade of horses and for the races while in progress.
Aside from these amenities, perhaps the nicest feature of our race day is the tempo with which the races are presented which allows for plenty of conversation with friends—a relaxing opportunity to socialize in a beautiful venue.
On Sunday morning, August 12, we will have a private brunch with a splendid Sherlockian program presented by notable Sherlockians. Brunch will commence at 9:30 AM at the Desmond Hotel in Albany, New York. Pre-purchased tickets are required in order to attend the brunch.
A block of rooms has been secured at the special nightly rate of $139.00 (complete) for rooms with queen or king beds, for Friday and/or Saturday nights. The BSI room rate is tax exempt thus saving about 20% in State and local taxes, so long as your room is booked and prepaid through the Baker Street Irregulars. Rooms will be available on a first-come, first-served, basis. Free parking is provided during your stay at the Desmond.
Friday and Saturday dinners will be self-arranged allowing extra time to visit with friends.
The deadline for registration is June 28th. Early registration is encouraged as we have a limited number of “At the Rail” tickets, and a limited number of rooms in our block at the Desmond Hotel. See the Registration Form below.
